KEEP THE TERRACE
OPEN LATER
The best hour on the Regent's Canal is the one we currently have to close through. We're asking to serve later on the terrace — and we'd love your name behind it.
Let the terrace stay open as late as the room behind it
Right now the canal-side tables have to start winding down before the rest of the venue does. We're asking for permission to serve out there later into the evening — the same hours we already keep indoors. No extra tables, no music outside, no change to the building. Just the terrace, open a little longer.
The best hour out here is the one we have to close
Sunset drops behind the warehouses on the far bank somewhere around eight. The water goes gold, the boats settle, the string lights come on over the pergola — and that is the moment we currently start clearing the terrace.

Why it matters
People come here for the hour the sun goes down over the water. Closing the terrace into that hour means the best part of the day at By The Bridge is the part nobody gets to sit through.
A later terrace is more shifts, and longer ones, for a small team who live locally. In a year where hospitality hours have been cut everywhere, that matters more than the covers do.
Vines over the pergola, herbs along the rail, troughs down the water side. It's planted, not paved — and quiet enough that you can hear the boats move.
An occupied, lit terrace on the bridge makes this stretch of towpath feel safer and more looked-after after dark than an empty one does.
What wouldn't change
Most worries about a later terrace are worries about noise. Here's what we're committing to, in plain terms.
- volume_offNo music outside, everSpeakers stay indoors. They always have. Later hours doesn't change that, and we're happy for it to be a condition.
- table_restaurantNo extra tablesSame terrace, same covers. We're asking for hours, not size.
- door_frontLast entry stays as it isThis isn't about becoming a late venue. It's about not clearing the terrace mid-sunset.
- cleaning_servicesGlassware in, towpath checkedTerrace glassware comes in at close and we walk the towpath by the bridge before we lock up.
- support_agentA direct line for neighboursIf the terrace is ever a problem, call 020 3659 4848 and you'll get the manager on duty, not a voicemail.
Add your name
Local voices are the thing that actually counts in an application like this — more than anything we can write ourselves. If you've had a drink out there as the light went, that's the story worth telling.
Ten seconds, no commitment, and we'll never use your details for anything else.
Thank you — you're on the list!
Every name helps us keep the terrace open later. See you by the bridge.
Good to know
What exactly are you asking for?
Permission for the canal-side terrace to keep serving later into the evening — closer to the hours the inside of the venue already keeps. Nothing about the building or its capacity changes.
Will it get louder?
No. There are no speakers on the terrace and there won't be. Later hours means conversation over the water, not amplified music outdoors.
Are you adding more tables?
No. The terrace holds what it holds — the same tables, the same number of covers. This is about hours, not size.
Does signing cost anything, or commit me to anything?
Neither. It takes about ten seconds — your name and email, and a message of support if you'd like to add one.
How will my details be used?
Only to demonstrate local support for the application. We don't pass them to anyone or add you to a mailing list.
I live nearby and I'm not sure. Can I talk to someone?
Please do — call us on 020 3659 4848 or email info@bythebridge.cafe and you'll get a person, not a form.
